The Art of Deep Breathing


 

Today is one of those days. I just want to pull the covers back over my head and go back to sleep. Have you ever had one of those days where you were so stressed out and felt like you are going to lose your mind? You say to yourself I need some help to save my sanity? If so, you’ll be pleased to know there is a strategy you can use to reduce stress, anxiety, panic attacks and improve your health at the same time!  This strategy is easy and convenient, and it’s called deep breathing. We all know having the ability to breathe is what gives us life. So, if you want more life, breath deeper. I know you’re saying all I have to do to get rid of stress is take a deep breath? Yup!!

Deep breathing is a breathing exercise that involves manipulating the breath in ways that bring about certain feelings on an emotional level. Our emotions are associated with our breathing patterns. No matter what emotion you’re trying to achieve, deep breathing exercises will help you get there.  Breathing deeper can help you develop your mind and body. It can help you enter a state of meditation. The beauty is it doesn’t cost you anything to breathe. It’s free, why are you being stingy with your deep breaths. Stop breathing so shallow.

There are no hard and fast rules stipulating when to do breathing exercises. It really depends on what you’re wishing to achieve by doing them. Actually you can do these exercises at any time and anywhere. If you want to achieve a state of calm, feel alive, reduce stress or wind down at the end of a long day. Stop what you are doing right now. Close your eyes take a deep breath INHALE EXHALE!

When you wake up in the morning, do some quick deep breathing exercises to feel invigorated and ready to go. You can go outside, take a deep breath, and then breathe in through your nose, and slowly out through your mouth. This breathing exercise can serve as a workout for your abdominal muscles and lungs. It can make you feel quite refreshed at the beginning of your day and provides a similar effect to taking a morning jog.

When you’re having a rough day at work rather you are in front of your computer or dealing with conflict, you can use a few calming breaths to help reduce stress. Sit back, close your eyes, and take a deep breath. Hold it in and then let it out. Repeat the process until you feel relaxed.

If you just need a quick lift, then you’ll only need to spend a short time here and there doing some deep breathing exercises. On the other hand, if you’re looking to have a significant impact on your health and serenity, you can form a routine of several breathing exercises throughout your day.
